Cozy gaming wasn't as popular as it is now. However, in my country, my oh-so-cozy motherland, gaming is a mostly male-dominated sector full of men who are way too meatheaded to enjoy diverse varieties that gaming has to offer. You tell them you play The Sims, they laugh at you and say that it's a stupid GIRLY game where people fuck and make babies.
Video games are all about GUNS, BLOOD, GORE, sweaty men with meaty muscles and hot girls with titties for DAYS! Hot girls who don't serve much of a purpose in the story, besides being a piece of ass men can suddenly sport boners for in the middle of a warzone!
Trust me, I love 3rd person shooters and action RPGs just as much as the next person. I'd say I've got quite the completed list (not mentioning the fact that I always choose the easiest difficulty available) I ALSO love hot video game girls! Jill Valentine in the Resident Evil 3 Remake? Yes mama.
BUT ANYWAYS, what was I talking about? Right. Cozy gaming. Cozy gaming is what I would like to consider for myself-- an easily accessible side of gaming that allows me to relax, push my seat back, and enjoy myself with a steaming hot cup of coffee. When I play action games, I make myself some coffee at first, set it to the side-- and barely get the fucking time to take a sip.
Alright, let's get into this list of video games that I deem to be very cozy, fun and perfect for those who don't regularly play video games. Not a ranking! (All the games on this list are available on PC)
1. Unpacking
This sweet and incredibly soothing video game is basically about... unpacking. Yes, unpacking moving boxes. A very heartwarming life story is told through unpacking the moving boxes of its main protagonist as she moves from one place to another from her childhood to adulthood.
Sounds boring? Well, your name sounds boring-- Sorry. Ehem. I love this game because it's just the perfect kind of game I need when I want to be distracted, but like, in a calm way. The whole 8-bit graphics is another plus in my books, and the way a whole story is told through merely unpacking stuff and organizing places is a smart and unique premise.
2. The Movies
Ever wanna run a film studio during the golden age of Hollywood? Well, this simulation video game is your best bet. Form a film studio starting from the 1920s, hire actors, make sure said actors don't become self-destructive alcoholics, make films, make money and become successful! This video game was terrific, not going to lie. Too bad Activision only released a single EP for it because, come on! SO much potential wasted.
Nevertheless, still an awesome game to this day. I've spent SO MANY hours on it, it's almost diabolical. You can actually goof around and make your OWN movies on this game, and I love that sort of shit.
3. Return of Obra Dinn
This cerebral 1-bit puzzle video game is about investigating the identities, whereabouts, and causes of death of the crew of a ghost ship that had disappeared and suddenly returned. And what does it NOT feature? There are giant spiders, killer mermaids, on-board murders and whatnot!
Though it's quite a brainteaser and a hard game to 100% solve-- the aesthetics, atmosphere and music is to DIE for. In other words, it really makes you FEEL like an early 17th century inspector! If you haven't already, you can also check out 'Papers Please' by the same developer-- where you get to be an exciting border pass officer in an 80s' fictional counterpart of Soviet Union!
4. Stardew Valley
The most popular cozy game in general that needs no particular introduction-- Stardew Valley is about inheriting your late grandpa's farm land in a cute small town and turning it into a flourishing farm of your own (if that's what you want. You could also make it shittier and live broke for the entirety of the game idk) Additionally, you can also make town friends, get married and grow a family!
8-bit games are fucking adorable. This is like The Sims, but with less woohoo-ing and a lot more farming.
5. The Case of the Golden Idol
Yes, just like the picture above, this point-and-click puzzle game narrates a chaotic whodunnit mystery thriller through solving identities and events using clues and intuition. And by chaotic-- I mean, it's kind of a riot with all the twists and occasional dark humor.
Similarly to Return of the Obra Dinn, this game can be a bit frustrating at times if you find it hard to solve the puzzles. However, it's still overall a relaxing experience where you get to work your brain out in a fun way. Plus, the story and atmosphere are great.
6. Little Misfortune
This game is an EXPERIENCE if you go into it without much of a prior knowledge regarding its story. Hence, I won't say anything much besides that you SHOULD play this game. It'll stick with you.
Alrightie, that's all for today. If you're a cozy/indie game connoisseur such as myself--
Which are YOUR personal favorites?
Do let me know down below-- if you exist. For now, toodles.
